Greenwood, once upon a time a productive rice plantation, was, until the 1920s, owned by the Gignilliat ("gin-lat") Family. Originally Greenwood consisted of several thousand acres of "up" and valuable marsh land. Our community is placed on that portion noted as "High Land" on the historic James H.
